As an academic Centre and part of a full-fledged university, research is not an option but an essential responsibility of academics in the Centre. The self-development of academics through research is important so that:

  • they have expertise knowledge in their field and can contribute to knowledge-building through on-going research; and
  • their teaching is informed by the latest development of knowledge on the subject matter

The three research niche areas that are in line with the academic background of the academic staff as well as the scope of research for a language centre are Languages and Literatures in Borneo, Discourse Analysis and Language Teaching and Learning.
