Bahasa Melayu for Unimas international students, staff and members of the public

The Centre for Language Studies, (CLS) Unimas is offering a 2-credit Bahasa Malaysia Levels 1 and 2 for non-native speakers of BM as part of our BM for Lifelong Learning package.

Level 1 is aimed at those with zero or very limited knowledge of Bahasa Malaysia. Learners will learn basic words and phrases in Bahasa Malaysia for survival and communication purposes. Learners will also learn to read and understand short texts in BM.

Level 2 is for those who have completed BM Level 1. In Level 2, learners will be exposed to more challenging use of Bahasa Malaysia. Level 2 will enhance learners’ knowledge and ability to use BM for everyday communication purposes. Learners will also learn how to write short essays in BM.

This course is free for students and staff of Unimas.

Members of the public who are interested to join these classes are required to pay:
• RM20 for registration and
• RM40 per credit course fee (RM80 per course). Senior citizen non-native speakers of BM are given a special 50% discount.

Our classes will be conducted every Monday 10-12noon, at TR8, CLS (BM Level 1) and TR9, CLS (BM Level 2). Commencement date is 12th July 2010.

Eligibility: Applicants must be residing in Kuching or nearby areas to enable them to attend classes. UNIMAS does not issue offer letters to applicants interested in this course, like in the case of applications for undergraduate or postgraduate study in this university, as this is a part-time language course for people who are already residing in the country. 

Registration procedure:

1. Fill in the registration form and submit the hardcopy to the CLS latest by 30th June 2010.
2. The Undergraduate Studies Division (Bahagian Pengajian Prasiswazah) will issue the offer letter.
3. Upon receipt of the offer letter, pay registration fee and course fee at Unimas Bursary (this only applies to those who are not students/staff of Unimas).
4. Register as student and for the course at BPPs.
