English for the Real World is a course designed to help students have greater understanding of authentic texts that are integral to our everyday world. It is an avenue for students to learn how to appreciate the English language and increase their level of proficiency. It provides them with the opportunity to explore and analyse written and spoken English texts of various genres in critical yet meaningful ways. It aims to raise awareness of the language and cultural issues encoded in the texts. In this way, it hopes to instill more interest in the language, inculcate positive values and thereby enhance students’ academic and social lives.
