This course introduces students to the Mandarin language. It focuses on developing basic listening, speaking and reading for communicative purposes. The course also covers basic writing skills. In addition, students are exposed to the phonetic system (Hanyu Pinyin), the characters, and the socio-cultural contexts of the Mandarin language.
